The Examined Death:
A Guided Journey to Make Peace with Mortality
-
Do you fear death…your own or your loved ones’?
-
Do you find it unbearable to contemplate your mortality, let alone talk about it?
-
Do you grapple with the big existential questions of life?
-
Have you been putting off planning - practically, emotionally, spiritually - for the end of your life?
-
Are you concerned that you’re not living each day, each moment, in the fullest, most meaningful way?
-
Do you worry that you’ll experience regrets at the end of your life?
If any of these ring true for you, it’s no wonder! Our contemporary Western culture has pushed death and dying out of sight, out of mind, and out of our conversation. The stigmatization of death - the last great taboo - has resulted in individual and collective denial, avoidance, and fear. Though our dysfunctional relationship with death has numerous adverse consequences for physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health, making peace with mortality empowers us to live with vibrancy and purpose.
I’ve created an online course to facilitate a deep investigation of your own mortality and that of those you love. Designed to inform and transform, the goals of this death-facing journey are twofold:
-
To overcome your fear of death using a curated set of proven tools, from educational to contemplative to actionable
-
To use mindful awareness of your finitude to live a fuller, richer life and avoid regrets in the end
This course is for anyone who’s going to die at some point and is worried about it - a little or a lot. It consists of self-paced, on-demand content and a live, interactive component in the form of virtual group sessions and an online support community. Through self-assessment, self-reflective exercises, and dialogue, you’ll gain clarity about the bases of your death anxiety and access support to bravely face your mortality.
As a death doula, end-of-life educator, and clinical psychologist with 40+ years of practice, I’m well-equipped to guide your mortality-facing journey. I can help you navigate common roadblocks and pitfalls that impede the way. Though I haven’t yet died myself, I know the terrain.
Prepare to transform your relationship with death…and with life!
